Some 88.2 million trips were made in Fujian province over the Spring Festival travel rush, or chunyun, that lasted 40 days, up by 3.4 percent year-on-year, the provincial transportation authority said on March 15.
From Feb 4 to March 25, about 84.8 million trips were taken by roads, up by 3.2 percent, while the remainder of 34 million by water, up by 10 percent.
Ferries commuting between coastal areas and Taiwan-controlled Kinmen and Matsu islands took 1,747 trips, transporting about 180,800 passengers, an increase of 18.5 percent, during the period.
Forty-three voyages on cross-Straits routes that directly link Fujian and Taiwan were made, chipping in another 9,500 people.
Fujian also dealt with 3,623 traffic violations during chunyun, said the authority.
