A team from Fujian province is in Taiwan dealing with the aftermath of the TransAsia Airway plane crash that occurred on Feb 4, leaving at least 40 dead and three missing.

The five-member team, dispatched by the Fujian Party Committee and Fujian government, arrived in Taipei on Feb 6. They made contact with various organizations including the airline company, travel agencies and funeral houses; visited victims’ families; and helped with aftermath work.

The focus of the next stage is to negotiate with TransAsia on compensation and service for the victims’ families, said Liu Jiaoshui, captain of the team and deputy director of the Taiwan Affairs Office in Fujian province, at a meeting on Sunday.

TransAsia Airways representatives met Sunday with relatives of the victims to discuss compensation after it began distributing money to families of the deceased for funeral costs.

A TransAsia spokeswoman, Fang Chia-wen, said the airline had already begun distributing 1.2 million Taiwan dollars ($38,000) per victim to families for funeral expenses, adding that a second meeting would be held Wednesday to discuss compensation matters further.
