No new H7N9 cases reported in Xiamen since Jan 17: authorities

As of 13th January 2015, a total of 4 H7N9-infected patients in Xiamen have been released from quarantine and are receiving treatment at normal wards after days of emergency treatment in the hospital.

Among the 4 patients, 1 was discharged from hospital after recovering completely from the H7N9 avian flu, according to reports.

Xiamen reported the first case of human infection of the H7N9 strain of bird flu this winter on 29th December last year. During the period of 13th January and 17th January, several people were infected with the H7N9 virus. Starting from 17th January, no cases were reported in the city.

According to reports, the conditions of the 4 patients are now stable. The recovery rate of the H7N9 bird flu in Xiamen is at 70%.

Xiamen has now taken various measures to prevent a potential outbreak of H7N9 bird flu. According to reports, agricultural sectors at all levels across the city have reinforced efforts in their fight against the disease, even though there have been no further reports since 17th January. The municipal government has also taken effective measures to monitor infections and hospitals have stepped up preparatory treatment efforts.
