The green land projects in Siming, Huli and Haicang districts have helped raise forest coverage in Xiamen by 0.51% to 40.03%, reaching the national standard for eco-city forest coverage requirements, according to a survey made by the Xiamen Forestry Department.
As one of the pilot cities for ecological leadership in China, Xiamen is boosting its efforts to speed up the construction of green projects in the city to forge the 1st national forest city of Fujian.
The total area of green land that meets the forestland requirements in the aforementioned three districts has reached 794.7 hectares, with 254.17 hectares in Siming District, 357.01 hectares in Huli District and 183.52 hectares in Haicang District.
The green lands that have continuous coverage of 0.33 hectares are eligible for forestland application submission.
According to the China Green Development Index Report 2012, Xiamen ranked 4th among 38 key cities nationwide on the green development index.
The green area per capita reached 11.2 square meters as of June 2012, surpassing that year’s goal ahead of schedule.
