A large lucid ganoderma (shiny wood mushroom) weighting 11 kilograms and about 1 meter in diameter was found recently near the city of Longyan, Fujian province, with the current owner of the fungus telling a local newspaper that the wild fungus was obtained from a rural person in the village of Quxi, at the end of November.

Qian Shiliang, an expert on edible wild mushrooms, explained, "Longyan has an abundance of these lucid ganoderma," which are important for traditional Chinese medicine and therefore for the economy.

Longyan is in southwestern Fujian, with Guangdong province to the south and Jiangxi province to the west. It has a subtropical, monsoon climate, with short, mild winters and long, humid summers. Its rainfall is greatest in the spring and early summer and lowest in autumn and early winter.
