A delegation from the Hong Kong branch of the China Council for the Promotion of National Reunification (HKCCPNR) visited the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) on Dec 20 to investigate its development and meet with local officials.

Pingtan is in a golden era of development. After several years of investment it has created basic infrastructure conditions for major industries and projects. Pingtan hopes to learn development experiences and attract more professionals from Hong Kong as it is striving to become an international tourism island and a free trade port, said Li Dejin, director of the PCPZ’s administrative committee.

Being the only experimental zone on the Chinese mainland open to Taiwan, Pingtan boasts more preferential policies than other places, said Yao Zhisheng, HKCCPNR’s executive chairman.

The purpose of the trip is to get to know more about Pingtan’s policies and business climate, which will pave the way for bringing in some enterprises from Hong Kong, he said.
