About 70 percent of university students in Fuzhou city spend more than 1,000 yuan ($160) every month, a survey showed on Dec 29.
The survey, which was conducted by the Southeast Express, polled 60 local college students.
The results showed that 32 percent of them spend between 500 to 1000 yuan monthly. 60 percent and 9 percent said they are in the 1,000-1500 yuan and 1,500 – 2000 yuan ranges, respectively.
Meals and daily necessities take up more than 50 percent of the total expenditure of the interviewees, and many revealed they spend 20 percent of their living costs on study and entertainment.
It is notable that about half of the respondents shelled out 20 to 40 percent of their monthly expenditure on socializing.
Nearly 60 percent of them completely rely on their parents for living costs. 34 percent say they are doing part-time jobs to make a contribution, while only fewer then 7 percent claim they are financially independent.
