On December 18th, a man opened fire on a police officer at about 3:30pm near Jiangtou Dong Road by the Jiangtou Food Street in Xiamen.
The man was found after he was caught driving without wearing a seat belt in Xiamen. He dumped his car and opened fire on the police officer while they were trying to seize him.
He escaped after the shootout, but was caught in Zhangzhou five hours later and a gun was confiscated from his vehicle after he was captured.
According to a food stall owner, he saw a man running in front of a policeman when he turned around and shot at the officer. The officer was not injured, but a hole was found in his shoe and a bullet shell was found nearby.
A 40cm knife was also found in the man’s car after his arrest.
He was caught at around 8:40 pm at a toll station on the Zhangzhou section of the Shenyang-Haikou Expressway.
According to the investigation, the fugitive is a 44-year-old Xiamen native who was a shareholder of a nightclub in Xiamen. He was running away after the nightclub ran into debt in 2013.
A further investigation into the case is still ongoing.
