The Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) boasts the best marine environment in Fujian province in 2013, according to a report.

More than 82 percent of Pingtan’s sea water met the Class 2 quality standard, the Fujian Marine and Environment Monitor Center said in the report.

“The survival rate of aquatic products, especially abalone, in Pingtan amounted to a record high level, which can be attributed to an environment clean-up around the mariculture areas, especially in major villages, fishing port districts, beaches and coast landscapes,” said Lin Xuefa, director of the local Marine and Fishery Bureau.

Figures show that Pingtan spent more than 115 million yuan ($18.4 million) on cleaning up off-shore waters and coastal zones in 2013.
