The government of Fuzhou, capital city of Fujian province, issued an emission reduction plan for 2014 to cope with the growing pollution, Strait News reported on Monday.

Fuzhou slipped out of the top 10 Chinese cities with the best air quality in the first quarter, raising concerns about pollution levels.

The emission plan makes specific pollutant reduction goals.

Fuzhou will cut chemical oxygen demand, ammonia nitrogen, sulfur dioxide and nitric oxide by 1.4 percent, 1.5 percent, 1 percent and 3 percent, respectively, from last year, according to the plan.

Local county government will be held accountable for their work in the pollution crackdown. Counties that don’t make the emission reduction targets will be prohibited from launching large industrial projects, the plan said.

Fuzhou will launch nearly 200 initiatives to curb water and air pollution to meet the emission reduction targets and improve environment quality, insiders said.
