Construction of 108,990 affordable houses will begin across Fujian province by the end of September, according to an engineering list recently released by the provincial bureau for housing and urban-rural development.

A total of 108,990 affordable houses will start construction across Fujian province by September.

The number exceeds goals set by central authorities, who ordered Fujian to build about 94,300 affordable units in 2014.

The accrued investment for the big housing project is 34.7 billion yuan ($5.6 billion).

Fuzhou, the capital city, is slated to build 10,735 affordable houses. As many as 7,740 units, or 71 percent of the total volume, will be transformed from shanties.
