Updated: 2013-09-10

Tanshi Mountain culture is represented by Tanshi Mountain cultural relics (5500 – 4000 BP) and is centered around the middle and lower reaches of the Minjiang River, connecting Fujian province and Taiwan. The region is a cradle of ancient culture in Fujian province and the birthplace of Fujian people in the pre-Qin period. The site shows the rarely known culture of Fujian people and greatly advances the civilization history of Fujian province from its origins 3,000 years ago.

The Tanshi Mountain Relics Museum displays archaeological findings from the Tanshi Mountain relics. The renovated ancient residential buildings in the southern part of the museum exhibit folk cultural relics used for weddings or household labor. There are also symbolic sculptures and sculpture groups in the museum and on top of Tanshi Mountain, showing the daily life and labor of local people. Visitors also have the opportunity to see what the original archaeological excavation site looked like.
