Beijing University of Chinese Medicine was founded in 1956. It is the only key Chinese medicine university directly under supervision of the Ministry of Education. Preparatory department for undergraduate courses was established in 2000. It provides training courses specially arranged for foreign students who want to specialize in undergraduate study of Chinese Medicine. The courses have been set up for solving the language problems and getting fundamental knowledge of Chinese medicine so as to smoothly pass the transition period and enter the undergraduate period.

Ⅰ. Admission Requirement:

Applicants are required to have an education background equivalent to, or higher than, that of a Chinese senior middle school graduate.

Ⅱ. Purpose of the Training:

Through half a year or a year’s study, students are required to attain certain level of Chinese and Chinese medicine so as to lay a necessary foundation for the coming undergraduate courses.

Ⅲ. Content for the Courses:

Junior classes: Comprehensive Chinese; Listening Comprehension; Spoken Chinese; Reading Comprehension etc.

Middle Class: Specialized Chinese for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacology; Specialized Spoken Chinese for Traditional Chinese Medicine; Ancient Chinese; Basic Knowledge for Chinese Medicine; History for Traditional Chinese Medicine; Biology and Chemistry

Ⅳ. Advantage and Distinguishing Features:

1.1)The content of the courses :Students who pass the “Basic Theology of Chinese Medicine” and “ History of Chinese Medical Science” can get necessary credits in advance and do not need to take part in the same courses during the undergraduate period. 2) The “Ancient Chinese” course has been established as a necessary language tool for studying Chinese medicine. 3) The university provides all kinds of opportunities for students to practice Chinese and experience Chinese culture. Besides the elective courses mentioned above, activities also include but not limit to: Linguistic practice trips to scenic spots and historical sites around

Beijing; Gatherings and activities such as watching Peking opera and acrobatics, inspecting the Chinese Hospital and studying Kendo and Chinese Kunfu, etc.

2. Faculty members: Beijing University of Chinese Medicine is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education, equipped with a large number of teachers with strong academic background and experience in teaching Chinese as a second language.

3. School environment: Preparatory courses are offered in the eastern campus with elegant environment and sufficient accommodation.

4. Adequate student resources: Beijing University of Chinese Medicine consists of more than 1000 foreign students on its list. Each year 300-400 applicants apply for different courses and 200-300 are recruited for their undergraduate study.

1. Application Fee: RMB 800 per person; Tuition: RMB 14000 per academic year

2. Accommodation: Standard bedroom with two beds, TV set, telephone, air-conditioning and bathroom (RMB 40 per bed per day)
