Ranked the first in Britain and the seventh in the world for internationalism by the Financial Times this year, Manchester Business School (MBS) has more than 30 years' experience in executive education.

"We have 140 nationalities of students back on our main campus in the UK this year, said Nigel Banister, chief global officer of Manchester Business School.

"But, we also have centers in Manchester, Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Miami and Rio de Janeiro," he added.

Banister explained his school selected countries based on their reputation as business hubs or important trade centers.

Around 3,500 students are currently enrolled in the Manchester institute's Global MBA program.

"We request that students take courses at two centers outside their home country, ensuring every center has a very multicultural student base," said Banister.

The Global MBA covers essential business and management skills including finance, marketing and leadership.

The part-time Global MBA program consists of five semesters, each lasting six months. Students have five years to complete core courses and special electives.

"Our Manchester motto is 'learning by doing,' because Manchester is the first industrial city in the world. We not only provide students with theories but also hands on experience in running projects in big companies," said Banister.

MBS has partnered with Tongji and Jiaotong universities in Shanghai, where students take courses on how to do businesses in China.

All those enrolled at the Shanghai MBS center work as company consultants, and have the opportunity to collaborate with Chinese business partners.

"We aim to develop global executives and people who are able to work at multinational corporations, or here in a Chinese company," said Michael Luger, dean of MBS.

"As most of the students have already had jobs or even owned companies, they need to enhance their entrepreneurship skills in terms of learning theories and practicing in our interactive activities," added Banister.

More than 30 students and alumni took a "Doing Business in China" elective this year, attending workshops and networking events. The MBS China center also offers a global careers service for its students.

Around 100 MBS students are currently studying in China. The center aims to grow its student base to 600 over the next two years.
