ABOUT THE COLLEGE OF INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION
The College of International Education is specialized in training foreign students and overseas Chinese students. It was one of the first schools approved by Ministry of Education to enroll foreign students and one of the schools that accept the students under China Government Scholarship. Besides, it is one of the 22 Chinese language education bases confirmed by Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council. It is one of the testing centers of Chinese Test of Proficiency (HSK). Cooperating with Miami University in Ohio of US, the college established a Confucius Institute in 2007.
The college insists on teaching Chinese with the aim of opening to the world, using Chinese as a means of putting up the bridges of friendship. Since the establishment in 1985 it has enrolled and trained more than 12,000 foreigners and overseas Chinese from more than 40 countries and regions. Upon completion of their studies, many of these students have gone on to careers in diplomacy, business, culture and many other spheres of life. Currently, more than 1000 foreign students from over 30 countries are studying in the college among which over 200 are pursuing for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree and more than 700 are at Chinese language learning at elementary, intermediate and advanced level.
With the development for more than 20 years, the college today has specialized in courses on Chinese language at the Bachelor level (divided into Chinese and culture course and business Chinese course) and Master level such as Curriculum Design and Language Teaching Theories(Chinese international education), Linguistics and Applied Linguistics as well as Chinese Language. Besides, education, psychology, Chinese literature, law, physical education, history, tourism and art are offered, 75 in total at bachelor level, 99 at master’s and 13 at doctor’s. The college has already formed an education system for international students that is more specialized, with more disciplines and a greater level of success. Today there are more than 80 teachers at concurrent posts, 10 of them are professors, 31are associate professors; 42 of them have Master’s and doctoral degree and 20 of them have experiences in teaching Chinese abroad. Additionally, the College offers various after-school activities and tutorials in subjects like calligraphy, painting, Erhu instrument playing , tai chi, Chinese Opera, paper cutting, weaving, and cooking lessons. In addition, sightseeing activities are often organized to compliment foreign students' studies.
