Caroline MacLean, from Canada, is a new teacher joining Canadian International School of Beijing this August. She is now teaching Grade 3, in a class of 18 children from 8 different countries.

On the first school day, a good discussion took place in her class. "Are you nervous? Why?"

MacLean said she herself feels a bit nervous, as it is her first teaching post abroad, though she had a six-week teaching experience in Africa previously. "Everything has been going very well on the first day, and the kids are great. The other teachers helped show me around otherwise I might get lost on campus."

On the morning of the first school day, LittleStar had a short talk with MacLean in her classroom:

LS: What was your dream when you were a child?

MacLean: I wanted to be a teacher. Both my grandmothers and my mother are teachers.

LS: Who is your favorite teacher?

MacLean: My Grade 1 teacher was my favorite teacher. I loved grade one.

LS: What kind of student is a good student in your eyes?

MacLean: The ones who ask questions, who aren' too quiet in class.

LS: What is the best gift you' ever received from your students?

MacLean: Last year, one girl in my Grae 4 class made me a crown with my name on it and I had to wear it during my whole day of teaching that day.

LS: What do you think is best about being a teacher?

MacLean: You never get bored! The kids always come up with very interesting things. Each day is different.

LS: Have you learned some Chinese?

MacLean: Very little so far, like telling the driver where to stop.

LS: What is your next big adventure in China?

MacLean: My friend, who is teaching in Hong Kong, said she will come with me to see the Great Wall... I' looking forward to it!
