Research Report No.169, 2016 (Total 5052)2016-12-09

Abstract: US Manufacturing Innovation Center is a successful commercialized-operation model through public-private cooperation. Guided by the US government, led by enterprises and supported by institutions of higher learning and scientific research institutes, the center has mobilized and integrated various innovation resources and formed a win-win innovation eco-system featuring cooperation between “enterprises, universities, research institutes and government”. This center has also brought advanced manufacturing technologies throughout the innovation chain from basic research, to applied research, and then to commercialized and large-scale production. Through these approaches, the center has offered top verified manufacturing technologies and application cases and promoted transformation of cutting-edge innovation technologies into large-scale and economically efficient production capabilities. China is currently implementing the plan of Made in China 2025, and one of the major projects is to center on key-industry transformation and upgrading and advanced manufacturing and to form a batch of manufacturing innovation centers (industrial technological research bases). The US Manufacturing Innovation Center has accumulated experience centering on specific advanced manufacturing technologies in integrating innovation resources, breaking through the innovation chain, conducting commercialized operation, and prioritizing both technological innovation and talent development. US experience makes good reference to China.
