The Dehong Education and “Two Foundations” Work Summary and Commending Conference opened in Mangshi on Feb 24, 2011. (The “Two Foundations” work includes a plan to make nine-year compulsory education universal and to eliminate illiteracy among young and middle-aged adults in the western region.)

The conference summarized the achievements made in education since the 11th Five-year Plan (2006-2010), analyzed the problems that still exist, honored advanced organizations and individuals, and mapped out the education work to be done in the next five years.

Meng Biguang, governor of Dehong prefecture, spoke highly of the achievements made in all aspects of education: the education management system was further developed, the education input increased since last year, the school management level was significantly raised, the quality of teachers improved remarkably, and the scale and level of the education development was upgraded in a big way.

Meng requested that governments at all levels must pay great attention to education in 3 aspects: speeding up the modernization of education, giving priority to the development of education, and comprehensively implementing quality education.
