An earthquake of 4.8 magnitude occurred in Pingyuan Town, Yingjiang County on Feb 1, 2011, the fourth one of a magnitude over 4 since Jan 1. It affected 80,600 people, with 1 lightly injured, 64,500 evacuated and 706 houses damaged.

After the disaster, Zhaojin, Secretary of the Dehong Party Committee, showed great concern regarding the disaster and the relief of the earthquake-stricken people.

He urged government officials to effectively conduct their relief tasks, including eliminating dangerous regions, comforting the affected masses and providing them with the necessities of life. He also personally hurried to the disaster area to cheer up the masses and guide the relief work in person.

Even on the eve of Spring Festival, he visited the stricken families to convey his greetings and blessings. He also encouraged the people to rebuild their hometown.
