Disciplinary authority publishes corrupt official's repentance

(Xinhua) Updated : 2016-08-22

The top disciplinary watchdog of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has published a corrupt official's statement of repentance.

The website of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) on Friday published the statement of Xia Ping, a former official in Hubei Province.

Xia had been awarded for his outstanding service in government, but was put under investigation in 2012 and was sentenced to 18 years in prison in 2014, convicted on three different corruption charges.

In his statement, Xia said he had failed to follow the right direction in life.

He reflected on his improper sexual relations, poor self-discipline, failure to abide by the law, moral degeneration and carelessness in making friends.

"I often felt ashamed for my wrong behavior and felt sorry for the Party, my wife and my family. I thought stopping this illegal activity, but finally gave in to self-indulgence," he wrote.

"Looking back on my previous wrongs, I find myself stupid and pathetic. It is such a bitter lesson for me."

He further warned others to never take chances with the law and Party's code of conduct.

"I have paid a heavy price for this lesson, and I hope there will be no more violators on the wrong road of corruption."
