The 2018 China-South Korea Medical Beauty Exchange and Cooperation Forum was held in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan province on Oct 24.
Eleven well-known South Korean medical beauty institutions carried out cooperation negotiations with their counterparts in western China.
"With the rapid development of economy in western China, the demand for high-end medical beauty is increasing every day. South Korea will continue to promote cooperation between the two countries in the field of medical beauty," said Jang Jehak, Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chengdu.
He recalled that during his tenure in Sichuan, heads of medical beauty institutions there continually expressed interest in South Korea's medical beauty industry.
He hoped that the forum could provide a pragmatic exchange and cooperation platform for South Korea and Sichuan in the medical beauty industry.
According to Bae Jwa Sub, head of the South Korean Health Industry Promotion Agency, more than 320,000 foreign patients came to South Korea for medical treatment in 2017, producing a revenue of KRW 639.90 billion ($567 million).
Meanwhile, South Korean medical and beauty institutions also strived to break into overseas markets.
He said that the number of South Korean medical institutions entering the Chinese market has increased by an average of 196 percent annually over the past two years. He also pointed out that with the globalization of the health care industry, more South Korean medical beauty institutions are looking to come to China for further development.
Chung Hae Beom, CEO of South Korea's Seouleagure Hospital, said that the fast-growing medical beauty market in China has brought business opportunities and challenges to South Korean medical beauty institutions, and he stressed that they should conduct comprehensive and thorough competitive analysis before entering the Chinese market.
Ding Ning, deputy head of Chengdu's Wenjiang district, said that in April of this year, Chengdu issued the “Support Policy for Accelerating the Development of the Medical Beauty Industry in Chengdu”, which not only discussed plans for medical beauty industrial parks and medical beauty blocks, but also advocated for the introduction of leading medical beauty enterprises.
He also explained in detail Chengdu's relevant policies to attract overseas medical and beauty institutions to the area.
In recent years, Sichuan and South Korea have conducted frequent economic and trade exchanges. South Korea has become one of Sichuan's major trading partners.
In 2017, the total trade volume between Sichuan and South Korea reached 28.12 billion yuan ($4.05 billion).
