Wenjiang holds multiple community competitions

To reveal the changes that have occurred in Wenjiang district of Chengdu since the renovation of urban and rural communities last year, 10 towns and communities in the district began holding badminton, reading and cooking competitions on Sep 2.
The competitions will accept up to 92 participants who must be Wenjiang residents. Applications will close on Oct 26.
The badminton competition will be held in Hongqi village of Wanchun town. Participants will be separated into men's doubles, women's doubles, family doubles A (with kids under 10 years old) and family doubles B (with kids between 10 to 14 years old).

The reading competition will be held in Wenmiao, Hesheng town, Shouan town, Jinma town and Yongquan sub-district. Each team requires at least one child and one parent to read an article. Participants can choose to have background music, dancing, instrument playing or calligraphy performances.

The cooking competition will be held in Liucheng sub-district, Gongping sub-district, Yongning town and Yongsheng town, and has no set rules for cooking style, materials or dish style.
In addition to cooking, different talents and games are also welcome during the competition. The competition will also ask participants to invite elderly family members and cook one dish for them on Double Ninth Festival (Oct 17), which is a Chinese traditional festival that honors the elderly.

Wenjiang hopes to make residents feel a sense of belonging through the competitions and encourage them to participate in the community.
