Between a rook and a hard place: Wenjiang district hosts chess competition

More than 100 chess enthusiast traded pieces at a three-day chess competition in Wenjiang district, Chengdu, over the May Day holidays.
Attendees travelled from as far away as Guangdong, Guizhou and Ningxia Hui autonomous region in the hope of mating their way to the championship.
Chess grandmaster Zheng Weitong was invited as a guest to the event. Zeng, the 2014 national individual chess champion, suggested that competitors relax themselves and enjoy the process of the games.
After a lot of head scratching and inflated cheeks, Zeng Jun from Dazhou in Sichuan province came out on top.
