Huaiyuan Ancient Town – home of weaving
Location: in the city of Chongzhou, 35 km from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport
Highlights: bamboo weaving, vine weaving, palm fiber weaving
The 1,600-year-old Huaiyuan Ancient Town only covers an area of one square kilometer, but it has more than 20 interlaced streets and paths. There are numerous shops on the streets, selling silk and satins, tea, food, medicine and weaving handicraft.
In the eastern part of the town, a 900-meter-long street gathers more than 30 families of weaving handicraftsmen. During the day, skilled craftsmen sit in front of their house and weave bamboos, vines and palm fibers into artworks and articles of daily use.
