As the first Chengdu Micro Marathon came to an end on July 4, a data analysis conducted by the organizing committee reveals interesting facts.

The female runners accounted for 49 percent of all the participants, a rate well above the prominent world marathons average.

The length of the micro marathon, 10 kilometers, and increasing number of women in Chengdu getting more conscious of the correlation between sports and good health and attitude and them being more attentive to their figures and looks were contributing factors, the data analysis suggests.

Another key feature of the marathon was that more running groups and organizations took part in the race. Participating groups wore team uniforms, carried their organizational flags and logos and waved their mascots during the marathon. “Running in an organized group is a good idea for beginners because the group behavior helps foster teamwork,” said Tian Tongsheng, a marathon runner, who was impressed by the large number of the running groups in Chengdu.

Finally, the data analysis shows that the 84 percent of the marathon runners were under the age of 35. This figure highlights the fact that the main force in Chengdu sports market, especially running market, remains young.
