The 2015 gaokao, China’s National Higher Education Entrance Examination will take place on June 7 and 8. More than 77,000 students in Chengdu, Sichuan province will take part in the exam.

To ensure that all the candidates arrive at their designated test sites on time, Chengdu transportation bureau announced on June 3 that all vehicles carrying candidates will be allowed to drive on both exam days regardless of the alternative-day driving rules.

According to the rules, cars whose license plate numbers end with 1 and 6 are normally not allowed to drive on Mondays. Parents who are in this situation but still need to drive their children to test sites on June 8 can register before June 5 at Chengdu education department with candidates’ exam certificates in order to benefit from the exemption.

Chengdu started the plate number restrictions in February 2015 to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution. Giving gaokao candidates exemption shows Chengdu transportation authorities’ care for people’s needs, according to a student’s parent.
