A five-day Thai food cooking course for 40 cooks from Chengdu and Chongqing ended in Chengdu, Sichuan province on March 20.
The cooking course is one of the activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Sino-Thai diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Chengdu.
Master chefs from Thailand gave lectures to train 40 cooks from Sichuan-Chongqing region and exchange different views on food culture.
At the closing ceremony of the course, trainees put their knowledge into use and cooked Thai food before receiving certificates issued by Royal Thai Consulate-General in Chengdu.
Consul Pheephakorn Niamyai said that Sichuan and Thai dishes have much in common. Exchange of views and skills on culinary culture between the two sides can further promote understanding and friendship, she pointed out.
“Sichuan food is also popular in Thailand,” said Ms Niamyai. “A Sichuan food training session would definitely be well received,” she added.
The celebration, jointly organized by Royal Thai Consulate-General in Chengdu and Chengdu municipal department of foreign and overseas Chinese affairs, has various cultural activities, including a “Thai film week” and a photo exhibition on Sino-Thai friendship.
