Sichuan performers to impress on New Year's Gala

Preparations for the 2015 Chinese New Year's Gala produced by China Central Television (CCTV), also known as Chunwan, is fully under way. A performance group from Sichuan, a key province in West China, is expected to play an important part in this premiere television event eagerly waited for tens of millions.
According to Sichuan Provincial Publicity Department, an acrobatic troupe from the city of Suining will perform building a bowl pagoda on top of their heads. The performance already impressed judges in an international acrobatic contest and won a gold medal.
Moreover, actors from Sichuan Song and Dance Ensemble and Sichuan Opera Academy will perform Chinese opera while instantaneously changing various colorful masks on their faces. In addition, popular singers from Sichuan province, namely Li Yuchun, Zhang Liangying and Zhang Jie, will also take part in the gala's final selection process. In particular, Li Yuchun will sing a song about the traditional Sichuan embroidery called Shu Xiu.
The programs have to go through six dress rehearsals and selections before being broadcast on CCTV's New Year Gala that attracts the largest audience in the world by any program. Whether the Sichuan performers will go through the selection to take part in the final gala to display the charm of local culture on Chunwan remains unknown until Feb 18, the Chinese New Year's Eve.
