Spring Festival travel rush kicks off

At 00:30 am on Feb 4, the train K4076 left Shenzhen, Guangdong province for Chengdu, capital city of Southwest China's Sichuan province, marking the opening of the 2015 Spring Festival travel rush, also known as chunyun in Chinese.

With the Spring Festival approaching, the New Year's Day in lunar calendar and biggest festival for the Chinese people, those who work or study away from their hometowns rushed back home for the much-waited-for family reunion.

Therefore, the number of passengers has significantly increased in the metropolises such as Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, where most migrant workers are employed.

It is estimated that more than 295 million train tickets will be sold during the Spring Festival transportation rush from Feb 4 to March 15. The Ministry of Railways and all transportation departments in all around China are preparing themselves for the extremely high traffic load.
