A special episode of Where are we going, Dad? – Travel in Dujiangyan – will be transmitted on Aug 1 and 8 on Hunan Television. To let more people get to know the unique charms of Dujiangyan, Sichuan provincial government designed a three-day, two-night tour there and selected six families on weibo, the Chinese micro-blogging website, to take part in the tour.
Where are we going, Dad? is a Chinese reality show featuring five celebrity fathers and their children as they travel to different places. Peng Kai, the program producer spoke highly of the scenic beauty and folk customs of Dujiangyan, saying that Travel in Dujiangyan is the most satisfying episode of this season.
Since the series has become a massive ratings hit, the travel destinations in the show attract many people. The six families selected by the government started their journey on Friday. They visited Guanxian ancient town, drifted on Baishahe River in Hongkou Nature Reserve, played with pandas in the giant panda breeding base, learned some martial arts, and enjoyed the local cuisine. Though the trip lasted for only 3 days, it gave the tour group members a taste of the beauty of Dujiangyan.
Mr Walker comes from the USA and has been working in China for eight years. He took part in the tour with his wife and four kids. During the trip, he was most impressed by the Dujiangyan irrigation system built in 256 BC. Walker said: “The ancients in Sichuan were amazing. They built this great irrigation infrastructure with the simplest tools.”
According to the Dujiangyan’s publicity department, over ten million tourists visited the city in the first half year of 2014. Dujiangyan has now become an international tourist city.
