The Wenjiang district of the city of Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, will be playing host to the first Chengdu-Dubai International Cup Wenjiang Meydan Horse Race, at Jinma International Race Course, on April 6, with five grass races.
This is a major horse race, which follows the China Equestrianism Festival, also in Chengdu. The five races are: the Chengdu-Dubai International Cup at 2,200 meters, and Wenjiang-Meydan 1,600-meter race, the most eye-catching events, the Meydan distance race, Chengdu 1,400 meter handicap, and Wenjiang 1,200-meter sprint.
In commenting on the event, the chairman and CEO of the Meydan Group, said, "We do hope the people of Chengdu will enjoy the charm of horseracing from world-level competitions."
All the horses in the competition are well trained and the equestrians have taken part in UAE horse races, some of them are the highest level, having competed in the Dubai World Cup.
In Chengdu, equestrianism has developed rapidly over the past few years and the city has become a center of equestrianism for China and has attracted much attention from abroad. This race marks the first step for its equestrianism to go global and provide a foundation for further high-level international competitions and the cultivation of equestrian culture.
