The Lam Group is a full service real estate acquisition, development and management company. With over 30 years of real estate investment acquisition and development history, the Lam Group has an impeccable track record for converting underutilized and underserved properties into highly valuable assets.
Founded and led by John Lam, an immigrant originally from Taishan, China, who immigrated to New York City from Hong Kong, the Lam Group has been one of the largest private employers in New York City for many years, especially in the Chinese community. Mr Lam started out in the garment industry, first as a factory worker (when he immigrated into the country), then as a factory owner, and then as the president and now honorary president of the Greater Blouse Skirt & Undergarment Association. At its height in the garment industry, the Lam Group employed over 2,000 employees. As president, Mr Lam represented owners that employed over 30,000 people.
Recognizing opportunities in the real estate market, Mr Lam took his success and ventured into the hotel business at the turn of the millennium. The Lam Group partnered with top national luxury hotel companies (such as Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International and Hilton Hotels Corporation) to develop modern, stylish and affordable hotel rooms. With this concept in mind, the Lam Group acquired underutilized assets and developed them into first class branded hotels. Over the past decade, the Lam Group developed over 22 hotels, adding millions into the local economy and creating over 2,000 permanent new jobs through its hotel division alone.
The Lam Group firmly believes in the strength of the NYC hotel industry (which had over 51 million visitors in 2012, the most visited city in the world) and the resilience of the NYC economy. Continuing its commitment to NYC, the Lam Group, which has just completed six hotel developments in the last two years, has already assembled seven hotel sites for development. Through these projects, the Lam Group will directly contribute over half a billion dollars to the local economy, provide thousands of construction jobs, and ultimately create an additional thousand permanent jobs.
While many companies fell during the global recession, the Lam Group has remained strong. The Lam Group attributes its success in multiple industries and its longevity to its core principles of creating value and maintaining discipline. The Lam Group will hold steadfastly to these principles as it continues to define the NYC landscape for many years to come.
Mr Lam is well known for his various successful business ventures. He has been quoted by numerous magazines concerning New York’s real estate, hotel and fashion industry.
