Summer Sprout Technology, a manufacturer of organic light emitting diode (OLED) was opened at the Mentougou Park of Zhongguancun Science Park on June 26.

At the opening ceremony, the company announced the launch of its first OLED project with a total first-phase investment of 100 million yuan ($14.8 million).

The unveiling also included seven newly constructed laboratories used for material design and chemical synthesis, three analysis laboratories, and four material appraisal laboratories fitted with top notch super clean rooms and evaporation equipment.

Doctor Xia Chuanjun, the founder of Summer Sprout Technology was once the person in charge at Universal Display Corporation, a famous OLED developer and manufacturer in the United States.

Xia revealed that the intention of starting the company was to develop self-patented OLED materials and technologies so that Chinese faceplate manufacturers can shake off their heavy reliance on external foreign technologies.

The company will be built as a one-stop platform for OLED materials with the aim to reach leapfrog development in OLED displaying and illuminating industry. Their final goal is to help facilitate the efforts to realize mass production of OLED.

Local government, investors, industry associations, and scholars promised great support, which will certainly be beneficial in terms of a starting point, said Xia.

So far, the Mentougou science technology park has already housed more than 100 talents holding doctoral and master's degrees as well as 50 returning scholars who set up their businesses here.
