Zhongguancun Science Park to give more support to startups

Zhongguancun Science Park will give more supports to start-up businesses and companies in 2016.

A conference on Feb 26 reviewed Zhongguancun Science Park’s achievements in 2015 and major work of 2016.

Sui Zhenjiang, deputy mayor of Beijing, Zhang Zhihong, director of Torch Hi-tech Industry Development Center, Guo Hong, the director of the administrative committee of Zhongguancun Science Park and representatives of enterprises and commercial organizations attended the conference and delivered speeches.

According to Guo, the park successfully held the Innovation and Venture Week and the 32nd IASP World Conference. High-tech enterprises in the park reached total revenue of 4.07 trillion yuan, an increase of 12.8 percent year-on-year and accounting for a contribution rate of 36.8 percent of Beijing’s economic growth. Strategic emerging industry accounted for 71.6 percent of the park’s total revenue, indicating that Zhongguancun has formed a high-tech economy.

Guo added that the Science Park carried out 70 reforms in 2015. With over 60,000 patent applications and 24,000 new high-tech enterprises, Zhongguancun has become a new landmark for start-ups, and its venture street incubated nearly 5 start-up companies per day. With the government’s support, Zhongguancun established a personnel management reform area and national technological and financial innovative center.

Zhongguancun companies such as Xiaomi, DiDi and 58.com have become leaders of the mobile internet. Baidu and JD.com are among the top 10 global internet companies, and Lenovo, Tsinghua Unigroup and BOE Technology are at the top of their fields. In 2016, Zhongguancun Science Park will make more efforts to support start-ups, including cooperating with large enterprises to share resources, encourage competition and foster cultural brands.
