Beijing's Zhongguancun Science Park had total revenues of 1.93 trillion yuan ($304.58 billion) in 2011, a year-on-year increase of 20.9 percent, and a sign that the zone is keeping its annual growth rate high -- more than 20 percent for the third year in a row since in 2008's financial crisis.
The zone's value-added output reached 306.26 billion yuan in 2011, a year-on-year increase of 17.1 percent, which contributed 24 percent of Beijing's economic growth, or 19.1 percent of the city's GDP.
Thanks to Zhongguancun's exemplary output, Beijing's value-added figure for its information science, computer, and software industry hit 149.26 billion yuan, an increase of 22.9 percent year-on-year, and making it the fastest growth industry among the city's tertiary sector.
Growth in the zone's biomedicine, environmental protection, new materials, modern services, and culture sectors was also above 20 percent.
The larger Zhongguancun area now employs 1.16 million people and had a per capita GDP of 264,000 yuan for 2011, or more than three times the Beijing figure, of 80,400 yuan.
