Sun Yuguo graduated from Wuhan University in 1993. He also obtained an EMBA from Peking University.

Sun worked as deputy general manager of China Siwei Surveying & Mapping Technology Corporation in 1997.

Dr. Sun is the earliest researcher in navigational digital map technology such as data transformation collection and compiling. Under his efforts, China has become one of the few countries owning this technology.

In 2002, Sun founded NavInfo and served as general manager. NavInfo is the first navigational electronic map company in China. It launched the automobile navigable digital map the same year. It is the first map which met international standards and was developed by Chinese people.

In 2003, Dr. Sun led his team to launch the first commercial navigable maps that met the LBS service requirements.

NavInfo has dominated over 65 percent of the market shares in the Chinese automobile navigable map market for five consecutive years. It has had over 70 per cent of the market shares in the internet-based map market for three consecutive years, and has led the PND market since 2007.
