The 27.9 billion yuan ($4.47 million) project for the Nanjing-Anqing intercity rail will open to traffic in July 2015. The railway runs 258 kilometers, 38 of which are in Ma'anshan city. The designed speed for this railway is 250 kilometers per hour.
By now, 70 percent of the construction in Ma'anshan city has been completed.
After completion, a trip from Ma'anshan to Nanjing will only take 15 minutes, marking the beginning of an "era of high-speed rail" in Ma'anshan. Presently, Ma'anshan East Station and its supporting facilities are under construction. The 3.5-hectare station square, which sits to the west to Ma'anshan East Station and east of Dongcheng Garden, will be ready in July 2014.
The square has one floor on the ground and two floors underground. B1 will be a business street and a transfer area, while B2 will serve as a parking lot. The ground level will serve as a distribution square, with vehicle passages on the north and the south side. The 8,000-square-meter underground business street is designed to be like Xinjiekou Railway Station of Nanjing city. Taxis and other vehicles can pick up or drop off passengers at either side of the street. Construction of the B2 parking lot has essentially finished; it will be able to accommodate 490 cars.
Once the Nanjing-Anqing rail is open, Ma'anshan citizens will be able to take round-trips to Nanjing, Hangzhou or Shanghai within half a day.
