Anhui calls for balanced development of tourism resources
Updated: 2014-01-29

Anhui province needs a balanced development of its tourism resources although some of its cities have been listed as ones with tourism competitiveness.

Peking University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences recently released a list of top 100 Chinese cities with tourism competitiveness, including seven cities coming from Anhui.

They are cities of Huangshan, Hefei, Lu’an, Anqing, Xuancheng, Chizhou and Wuhu.

But all are in the south of the province and most are at the bottom of the list, except from Huangshan and Hefei, said a researcher from the academy.

“It was caused by the province’s unbalanced investment in the development of tourism resources,” said the researcher.

Huangshan, considered as one of the most noteworthy cities in China, ranks 10th in the list by competitiveness in sightseeing, followed by Hefei, capital city of the province, which ranks 31st. The first three are Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou, capital city of Zhejiang province.
