No 6 High School of Hefei in Anhui province launched the “Approaching Li Hongzhang” campaign at the main campus passageway on Dec 25, 2013.

Guided by student instructors, more than 1,000 students participated in the campaign.

As one of the most prominent historical figures from Hefei, Li Hongzhang is a key person in Chinese modern history. Li pushed forward the Self-Strengthening Movement. Utilizing vivid displays, the campaign allowed students to better understand their hometown's historical figure and promoted various aspects of history and culture, including areas less familiar to the youth.

The entire campaign zone covered an area of 100 square meters, including nine exhibition boards illustrating the evolution of the imperial examination system and a life-size haoshe (ancient examination room). Two students also wore the costumes of ancient scholars to experience the competitive nature of the exams. Many students said that the vivid teaching method was more enjoyable than traditional classroom lectures.

According to the host, further activities, namely the From Tradition to Openness seminar and Li's Study in the US drama are also on the agenda.

The campaign is supported by staff at the former residence of Li Hongzhang.
