Red alert issued on snowfall in Huangshan

On Dec 17th, 2013, Anhui Tiantangzhai scenic spot embraced its first snowfall of this winter.

So far snow has swept Anhui's four 5A-level mountains - Huangshan Moutain, Jiuhua Mountain, Tianzhu Mountain, and Tiantangzhai, among which Huangshan Mountain has the thickest snowfall reaching over 50cm. And the first red alert against blizzard in Anhui of this winter has been issued in the scenic spot.

At 17:00 on December 15, freezing rain began to fall in Huangshan Mountain scenic spot, and snow fell on the early morning of December 16, which was the first snow in Anhui of this winter. Drifting snow covered trees and roads, presenting a different kind of snow world to tourists from all over the world. It is known that "winter snow" is one of the five most beautiful sceneries of Huangshan Mountain.

By 8:00 am of December 17, the snow in Huangshan Mountain scenic spot has reached 54cm. At 8:25 am, the meteorological office of Huangshan Mountain has issued a highest-level red alert for blizzards, pointing out that there would be continuous snowfall in the next 6 hours, which would have great impact on traffic, agriculture and animal husbandry.

It is reported that the scenic area has currently strengthened the protection of ancient and famous trees, including Guest-Greeting Pine and Black-Tiger Pine, making efforts to remove snow on roads, and enhanced traffic safety. At the meanwhile, all expressways, subjected to the snow, in the city of Huangshan are taking three-level traffic control, to prevent traffic accident rising from bad weather.

On December 17, reporters learned from Anhui Meteorological office that by 8:00 am, snow spread in many cities of Anhui.
