The Anhui 2012 Film Week kicked off in Taiwan on August 28, attracting more than 300 people from local cultural and business circles.
A Huangmei opera film was shown at the opening ceremony, telling a heroic story of rice workers in Wuhu city who fight against foreign invaders.
The event is designed to boost cultural exchange and cooperation between Anhui province and Taiwan. It follows the Anhui 2009 Culture Week in Taiwan.
Cao Zhenghai, member of the Standing Committee of the Anhui Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and head of the Publicity Department, gave the opening speech.
Cao said that film is more than a form of art. It serves as an embodiment of national culture and spirit and also a bridge for friendship. He expected that Taiwan's visitors would enjoy the films to shown during the week.
In addition, the official welcomed Taiwan residents to visit Anhui in an effort to further strengthen friendship and promote cooperation. During the film week, the locals can see a series of award-winning films shot by filmmakers in Anhui province.
