4th All-China games opened in Hefei
Opening ceremony for the 4th All-China Games (by Feng Jun)
The 4th All-China Games were opened with a grand ceremony on May 16 in Hefei, Anhui province, with the theme of “a sports extravaganza and a festival for the people.”

The opening ceremony was hosted by Sun Jinlong, a member of the Standing Committee of Anhui province, Secretary of CPC Hefei Municipal Committee and Deputy Director-General of the organizing committee of the Games. Liu Pengzhi, Director of State General Administration of Sports and Director of the organizing committee of the 4th All-China Games, delivered the opening speech. Wang Sanyun, Governor of Anhui Provincial Government and Director of the organizing committee, delivered a welcoming speech.

Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, was present at the ceremony and declared the opening of the 4th All-China Games.

The 4th Games made significant changes and innovations to fulfill the aims of "lowering medals’ importance, lowering trophy’s weight, enforcing participation, enforcing communication, and focusing on health-building and joy” through competition, exhibition, discussion and amusement.

The Games aims to enable people to “do more exercise, build health, have joy and happiness” on their own. The Games will play an active role in promoting the development of non-Olympic events in our country and National Fit-Keeping Program and better meeting people’s needs for a wide variety of sports.

There are altogether 34 competition events and 318 small events in the 4th All-China Games, the greatest numbers in the Games’ history.
