Sea of Bamboos |
With an area of some 20 square km, the Putang Scenic Area is located in the Putang mountainous area in the east of Ma'anshan city.
Crisscrossed by hills, ridges and gullies, the whole area is full of rustic appeal. Putang is famous for its forest of bamboos, ancient trees, gurgling springs and the Bell Tower, which, together with the somewhat queerly-shaped slope, are often referred to as the "Five Wonders of Putang".
The whole area is divided into three parts: Huangzhuang, Jianhu Lake and Lingxuan. Located in the northeast of Putang, the Huangzhuang Scenic Zone is characterized by serene valleys and clear springs, including the Nine Dragons Contesting a Ball, Ancient Temple in the Tranquil Valley, Longevity Tree beside the Dragon Spring, and the village by Xinghu Lake.
Located in the southwest of Putang, Jianhu Lake features rippling waters, beautiful mountains and the sounds of birdsongs, and is typified by the gaily-painted pleasure boats on Jianhu Lake, the observation of many beautiful birds and the bell and drum towers. Lingxuan, located at the entrance of the Huangzhuang Scenic Area, comprises the tombs, towers and exhibition hall of the ancient martyrs.
