The veterinarians and keepers in Yunnan Wild Animal Park played African music to relieve the stress of a new giraffe moother to help her feed her newborn baby.

After the giraffe gave birth last month, the new mother became anxious and refused to feed her calf.

In order to alleviate her stress, the keepers and veterinarians collaborated together and decided to use music as part of therapy.

"Music threapy is helpful to those with hypertention, and giraffes often have high blood pressure. I used music in hopes that it can help calm the giraffe down," said Nie Hongliang, who works at the park.

After trying different types music, the keepers decided to play African-style drum music on repeat. The mother giraffe became less restless so the baby could take milk from her. "This is the first time in China that we used music as part of therapy to a giraffe," Nie added.
