Dental-care company brings whitener to China

Supersmile, a leading teeth-whitening and oral-care product from the United States, has officially entered into the Chinese market. It's the company's second foray into Asia, having entered the Japanese market in 2005.
Alan Beck, vice-president with Supersmile, which was founded in 1987, told a media conference held in Beijing on July 21 that the company has started cooperating with Jiamei Dental, a leading dental clinic chain in China, to sell the company’s teeth-whitening products in China.
Using a formula created in the 1980s by American dentist Irwin Smigel -- best known for introducing a bonding technique into aesthetic dentistry — Supersmile's whitening products work by gently dissolving the thin layer of protein that forms on the surface of teeth, to which plaque, bacteria and stains adhere. Competing whitening products use bleach, or abrasives like silica, according to Beck.
The products are especially helpful for getting stains off teeth for children with braces, Beck says.
In China the products wil be sold through Jiamei Dental, and through television shopping platforms, Beck says.
Five core products of Supersmile's whitening line has gotten to shelves of Jiamei Dental's 20 clinics throughout the country, and a package for 90 days' use will cost about 500 yuan ($80) in promotional pricing.
