On August 25, 2012, Chengdu, Sichuan province, a Bichon dog is dressed up as the Monkey King at a pet make-up competition, who was awarded with the Best Performance Prize. The Monkey King is one of the main characters in “Xiyouji,” or “Journey to the West,” one of the greatest classic novels of Chinese literature originally published during the 1590’s.
