Colon cancer rates declined by 30 percent in U.S. over the past decade among 50-year-old people owing to efficient colonoscopies, according to Richard Wender, chief cancer control officer at the American Cancer Society, Tuesday.

The disease now definitely could be prevented and cured as long as the patients undergo screening, which is proved by sharp declining of death rates from colon cancer over the past decade.

The American Cancer Society has set a new goal of screening 80 percent of patients by 2018, so as to further reduce mortality of this cancer.

Their goal is to eliminate this cancer, said Richard Wender. Till now, Colorectal cancer is the third most fatal cancer in the USA, causing tens of thousands of people to death.
