Influential Chinese honored

The 2012-2013 Chinese Influencing the World Awards honored 11 of the "most influential" individuals and groups at Peking University on Saturday.

Master Hsing Yun, founder of the Taiwan-based Fo Guang Shan Monastery, won the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Nobel laureate Mo Yan, pianist Lang Lang and composer Chen Qigang won the top culture and art awards. Those from other fields, including science, public affairs and sports were also recognized for their contributions.

The awards ceremony, an annual pageant hosted by Hong Kong-based Phoenix satellite TV, was launched in 2006 and the candidates were elected by dozens of renowned media organizations.
