New York-based soprano Huang Ying staged a recital at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing on Nov 20, as part of her China tour.
Huang earned international attention when she made a sensational debut as Cio-Cio San in Frederic Mitterrand's 1995 feature film Madame Butterfly. Her operatic roles also include Du Liniang in Tan Dun's Peony Pavilion and the title role in the world premiere of Zhou Long's Pulitzer-winning Madame White Snake.
Accompanied by Metropolitan Opera recital pianist Bradley Moore, Huang performed a number of classic opera arias and art songs by both Western and Chinese composers.
Huang staged her recital earlier at the Shanghai Grand Theater and will perform at the Shenzhen Grand Theater on Nov 25 and at the Suzhou Culture and Arts Center on Dec 3.
