Tens of millions of Chinese grew up reading Zheng Yuanjie's fairy tale stories about Pipi Lu, the naughty but kind-hearted boy, and his little sister Lu Xixi. Fans of the series converged in Beijing on Thursday to celebrate Pipi Lu's thirtieth birthday. Let's crash the party.

It's a familiar tune for fans of Pipi Lu series. Over thirty years, many stories from the series like "Shuke and Beita", "Pipi Lu and Lilliputians in a Tin" and "Magic Cube Mansion" have been adapted from books to TV series. These works form happy childhood memories for many Chinese people, and that includes the new generation fairy tale writer Yang Peng. He's been an avid reader of Pipi Lu since he was a little kid.

Yang Peng said,"Pipi Lu is very naughty. I think every child should be naughty. And he is very truthful. Unlike some children imitating adults to tell lies, he always tells the truth."

Emotion image Tusky's creator Wang Momo is another fan of Pipi Lu, who started reading the series since at elementary school.

Wang said,"We all admire Pipi Lu who can always encounter magical things. Zheng Yuanjie's stories have realized many dreams of ours, and let us long for something. She has enriched our understanding about life."

Hailed as the "King of Fairy Tales", Zheng Yuanjie has written seventy stories spanning nine series, with 20-million copies in print.

"Here at Pipi Lu's birthday party, the thing I most would like to say is: Long live encouragement! Don't depreciate others. The society needs encouragement, appreciation and praise,"said Zheng.

Zheng has added a new story "Bao'er's adventure" to the Pipi Lu series for this special birthday. It's about a panda's expedition after rebirth. And now there is also a computer game based on Pipi Lu stories that has just been released online.
